After an early breakfast at your hotel, your guide will meet you in the lobby to begin your journey to Ninh Binh Province, a scenic two-hour drive south of Hanoi. This breathtaking region, often called “Halong Bay on Land,” is known for its dramatic limestone karsts, lush countryside, and tranquil rivers. Your first stop is Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam during the 10th and 11th centuries. While much of the original citadel has been reclaimed by time, the temples of the Dinh and Le dynasties remain, beautifully preserved and surrounded by emerald rice fields and majestic mountain scenery. Following a traditional Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant, you'll continue to Tam Coc, where a serene 2-hour sampan boat ride awaits. A skilled local rower will navigate you through a network of winding rivers and canals, passing through three stunning limestone caves and offering a front-row view of the region’s awe-inspiring karst formations. In the afternoon, head to Mua Cave (Hang Mua) for a scenic and slightly challenging hike. The stone staircase, carved into the side of the mountain and adorned with intricately sculpted dragons and phoenixes, leads you up nearly 500 steps to a panoramic viewpoint. From the summit, enjoy sweeping views of Tam Coc’s rice fields and rivers—an unforgettable scene often likened to a miniature version of the Great Wall of China. At the top, you’ll also find a quiet altar dedicated to Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy. Return to your hotel in Hanoi in the late afternoon.
